Diversity Education Coordinator- The University of Houston

The University of Houston is a culturally diverse public urban institution seeking to become one of the nation’s top research universities. The University is located on 567 beautifully landscaped acres near downtown Houston. The University has 40,000 students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. The student population has more than 60% minority students (African American, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American) and 9.4% are international students representing more than 100 countries.

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI) was established in 2014 and is housed in the newly renovated Student Center. The Center fosters an inclusive university community by providing services, programs, and support that engage, empower and educate the highly diverse student population and campus partners at the University of Houston. CDI provides intercultural dialogues, signature programs, lecture series, university program partnerships and diversity workshops that advance diversity education and cultural competence. The Center for Diversity and Inclusion believes diversity is a shared responsibility and works with entities across campus to help move diversity and inclusion forward at the University of Houston.

The Diversity Education Coordinator specific job duties include:

  • Advise the Cultural Student Organization Roundtable and support student initiatives with regards to diversity and

    inclusion

  • Organize, plan and assess Diversity Institute, a one-day diversity conference
  • Create, schedule and facilitate diversity trainings
  • Manage the Center’s Resource Library
  • Provide students with avenues by which to promote cultural inclusion and sensitivity
  • Plan and implement educational programs on topics relating to multicultural competence and social justice
  • Create a campus diversity newsletter highlighting campus-wide diversity programs, events, services and research
  • Assist Director in planning a student diversity leadership retreat
  • Interact with students, faculty and staff to promote the goals and objectives of the Center
